Message | Proper education is crucial aspect of people's every day lives and determines the success of the society as a whole. According to tens of years of experiences & studies, the public education system guarantees standard, high quality education and equal chances for all people to get along and succeed in life, widen their civilization & social capital despite of their backgrounds. Public education also creates many important social relationships between different groups of people and improves tolerance, cooperation & expression skills and equality as a whole in the society. Private schools are important for talented & special students but turning whole system into private one is unacceptable and would not only greatly divide the society & people, but also cause unemployment, lack of skilled workers, crime, dropping out from the society, domestic violence, depression, braindrain and decrease in level of general knowledge & civilization. These effects would have great negative impact on our nation's economy as well. The claim that the education provided for prisoners would make them better criminals is ridiculous and totally unfounded. Educating prisoners is important aspect of rehabilitation which greatly helps then in civil life once they have paid their debt back for the society. We wonder if the ACP is ready for increased crime rate & insecurity in the society when proposing nonsense like this. * John Corell, Minister of Education & Culture |

Message | The ACP wonders where the MPD draws its conclusions in the second paragraph from. You clearly state that private schools are excellent for catering to talented and special students, meaning they provide higher quality education. It is our opinion that we should focus on developing our brightest students, as well as providing a well-needed alternative to state-sponsored education. Once we abolish the public educational system, we can reduce taxes immensely in such nonsense departments such as your own, Mr. Corell, and better distribute money to the less fortunate members of our society. The idea that education is a right is nonsensical; rights only come in protections FROM government, not privileges granted BY the government. We need to encourage a competitive society so that our economy may flourish in the true spirit of capitalism. So, let's assume what an ideal privatization of education would entail (and it would a progressive deregulation, not a one-step rapid one, mind you): taxes drop dramatically, more money distributed to less fortunate families; students attend higher quality schools free from government interference, quotas, standardized testings (ie, environments for LEARNING, not rote memorization); students now have the ability to attain higher quality jobs, decreasing poverty, and decreasing the general cause of crime. Furthermore, we find it extremely laughable that taxpayers should be expected to prop up money for convicted criminals so that they can have the privilege of learning while others need to toil and EARN their education? That's the most unequal proposition we've ever heard. Criminals should have to climb the social ladder like the rest of us, not get special privileges. Consider the fact that prison gets you a free education: wouldn't this entice lower income Dorvikans without education to commit more crimes so that they may finally get an affordable education? Wouldn't that therefore increase crime? What's better: decreasing crime by distributing more money via lower taxes and improving education by removing the carcass of public education; or rewarding society's delinquents with free gifts? |

Message | Private schools provide special kind of education and their education can be more versatile due to numerous high-level students whose progress isn't slowened by less talented ones or more standard education: the education is quicker and more specialized in private schools, but not "better". Idea of focusing just on brightest students is nonsense and would be faithful for the welfare of the society. Public education has proved its place in this society, it's far from nonsense: the ACP should stick with the facts and the big picture instead of spreading mighty, populistic promises for small partion of the population. We agree that competitive & truly motivating society is an important goal, but it's not achieved through private education & high quality education in the expense of other aspects in life. We would really like to hear how the ACP can truly claim to care about less fortunate families by proposing legislation as this? Populism, pure and simple which we have noticed in the camp of the PCPD as well. Quotas don't guarantee high quality education and they leave out considerable number of good students as well. Standardized testings have been in use at the public education system for long time and government interference isn't always definately bad, and public education system offers chances for ALL to acquire higher quality jobs by offering equal chances for people. The claims that poverty and crime would decrease are totally unfounded: right on the contrary, poverty & crime would clearly increase due to quotas, merciless competition in schools, relatively high expenses of schooling (the rule of supply & demand, all school material would have to be bought by families themselves) for low-income people & lower middle-class (even for regular middle-class) and dropping out from school because of tough social pressure. The priority of profit-based private schools is first to get maximum profit, then provide high quality education. Savings in tax expenses would be quickly eaten by increased crime, poverty, unemployment, dropping out from the society, domestic violence, instability in families and so on. Unlike the ACP, we firmly believe that criminals are human too, they can change and they have paid for their debt for the society when they have served ther term in prison or got executed. Argument for people committing crimes due to need for better education is simply taken off from wizard's hat when we regard the current education system (though it could be possible with total private education). Is the ACP ready to increase the rate of crime renewals, unstable & dangerous individuals just because the party wants to punish wrong-doers for the rest of their lives by forbidding them from very basic society education? Our stance in this issue is clear, logical and backed up with facts so there's no need to further comment this subject. * John Corell, Minister of Education & Culture |
