Bill: Bill To End Corporate Welfare
Details
Submitted by[?]: AM Populist Social Democrats
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: October 2355
Description[?]:
Whereas, We see the current system of having only private defense contractors but subsidizing them the worst of all possible worlds, a form of corporate welfare through subsidies that also, given the free foreign investments in national companies, could leave Liaktonia dependent on foreign governments for its defense, and Whereas, competition between public and private defense companies can only result in better production, as any who believe what we see as a myth, that corporations automatically produce more efficiently than the public sector, can be comforted that under such circumstances only the most extremely secret weapons would be produced by the government; only if the private sector rips the government off, refuses to build the weapons we want (due perhaps to foreign ownership), or is simply less efficient after profit is made, would we use public contractors, We hereby propose that there be both public and private defense contractors, with no subsidies for private contractors. Furthermore, rather than funding private efforts toward maintaining cultural heritage, as taxpayers may then pay twice, once in governmental funding of the private efforts and then a second time through fees to visit monuments, We hereby propose that instead the government subsidize to a similar degree local governments that choose to do the same. Local governments, to gain tourists, have every incentive to keep historic sites and monuments in good condition. |
