Message | "I'm finding the best tactic for these strategic bills is abstaining." I'm hoping that'll backfire, even thoguh the penalty for abstension is nowhere near as large as it used to be. |

Message | "I am unconvinced about the pension" The government of Baltusia does not protect people from themselves when it comes to drinking poison or walking in front of cars, so why do we protect people from being unable to manage their money? If you plan on living into retirement, you should save for it while you earn it. What if they're too poor? One has to ask why they are too poor to save up for themselves. Is it because they chose to squander their money instead of being pragmatic? Did they sign themselves into a binding contract without taking the future into account? Are they unwilling to work, which begs the question: do they deserve any of the fruits of society's labour? Is there any scenario you can come up with that does not involve the person in question being stupid or lazy? It is hardly reasonable to state that there could be anyone, anywhere in Baltusia that is working and too poor to cover their basic needs, what with the free government handouts and all (i.e. rent and utility subsidies, child benefits, some welfare, a reasonable minimum wage with free universal health and education - which I might add, WE pioneered the modern Baltusian welfare state), so it seems reasonable that no one has both a reasonable level of cognition and motivation and is too poor to save for the future. "curfews should be left to the local governments! Some places may need it while others may not." Regardless of the need, the government has no right to tell people where they can and cannot go, barring a national emergency where an invasion is imminent and we need to conscript people. "AND THE GOVERNMENT HAS NO RIGHT TO TAKE SOMEONE'S HOME!!!!!!!!!" Who has a greater right? The tax payers not to have to shell out an extra billion aureus to re-route an important sewage line or the person who rejects the reasonable compensation? |
