Whereas, Cuts in program funding are not feasible given what is needed for the level of services we have authorized, and thus in our opinion not an option with government only accounting for less than 6% of the GDP, and Whereas, We need to get out of deficit, and Whereas, Proposing a personal income tax increase would be a very last resort and as such we hope we can gain support for a sales tax increase on nonessentials, We are proposing such. |

Message | We would like to add a promise that, if this passes and if we control the finance ministry when there next is a significant surplus, we promise that our proposal shall be to use the majority, and perhaps all, of the surplus, to decrease middle class personal income taxes. |

Message | The sales tax, while very egalitarian in our viewpoint, is not our first choice as long as the income tax is in place as it is double taxation. First the income is taxed when you earn it, than taxed again when you spend it. This being said, we will vote in favor of this as an emergency measure, with the PLPL's promise of using any surpluss to reduce income tax. Our refered state would be that all tax revenue be based on sales tax, so this can be viewed as a step in the right direction. |
Date | 00:11:16, February 07, 2007 CET | From | Likaton Coalition of the Willing | To | Debating the Fixing The Deficit Act |
Message | Having forced through a budget in 2351 "With a budget surplus over 6 billion LIK, we are proposing to spend it on our domestic departments, to improve infrastructure, science, and technology and to keep up with population growth.", the PLPL are now trying to up taxes to keep pace with their out of control spending. We propose that the PLPL, instead of messing with taxes, surrender control of the Finance Ministry to another party, such as the AMRLP, to try and sensibly undo the damage wrought. We will not support any further measures that the PLPL try to introduce. |

Message | Damage wrought? Funding programs is damage? It was the LITP that did the damage by cutting corporate and consumption taxes in creating a deficit. We also could not have "forced through" a budget. It required support of the majority of the Convocation. At the time, the LITP voted in favor of the budget, although they stated that the next surplus should be used toward tax cuts. We conceded that point, in debate on this measure. What more they want, it is hard to say. |

Random fact: Players have a responsibility to differentiate between OOC (out-of-character) and IC (in-character) behaviour, and to make clear when they are communicating in OOC or IC terms. Since Particracy is a role-playing game, IC excesses are generally fine, but OOC attacks are not. However, players must not presume this convention permits them to harass a player with IC remarks that have a clear OOC context. |
