Message | The Liberal Party stresses that landfills are very green and often misunderstood and misrepresented. Landfills, when they are full, are often converted into parks and golf courses. |

Message | Landfills are not green and should be used as a last resort. Landfills produce staggering amounts of CO2 even when compared with recycling centres and also take up huge tracts of land. We have a population of over 95million and growing, the amount of landfill required is astronomical. We would also point out the increased environmental damage and economic cost due to the required increase in attempting claim primary resources in order to reproduce those things that would otherwise be placed in landfill in abundence. In regards article 2, private companies are inherently expensive and unreliable when disposing of waste and this disposal is best handled by the government who can then guarantee best and cost effective disposal. Allowing the private sector to deal with the private sector rather than forcing people to pay extraordinate amounts to private companies, assuming they even attempt to find a company to remove their waste and don't just "fly tip" their waste, is inefficient and inconsiderate as well as ignoring the governments social responsibility. |
