Bill: Free the Drugs

Details

Submitted by[?]: Justice League of Cildania

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: December 2365

Description[?]:

So The Atom ran up my shoulder and yelled something into my ear about drugs that I didn't know about. Apparently, they cost billions of dollars to research and develop and test, and that's before any government regulations or restrictions.

"That's fine," I said, "Drug companies should help people, and the government is just trying to ensure that all the drugs are safe for people." "Sure," says the Atom, "but there are already laws to protect the people from harm. The government's oversight is costly and wasteful in time and money; so wasteful in fact that many potential drugs are never produced because the companies cannot afford the costs."

"Without drug companies, medicine would only rarely advance, and a lot of the health we enjoy today is because drug companies of the past invented and discovered so much. If drug companies really should help people the most, they should concentrate on developing new drugs and new cures... and if the government really wanted to help people the most, they would leave the drug companies free to make more cures."

Hear hear I say, the Justice League is all for advancing cures and medicine as fast as we can. And if that means to stop the laws that affect drug pricing and cost, then we should repeal 'em.
