Bill: Consumer confidence act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Adam Smith Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: December 2085

Description[?]:

We consider that correct labelling is essential to the freedom of choice of the consumer. To be able to choose the individual has to have information made available to him or her.

In line with this policy, we recommend that the government requires all foodstuffs to be labelled regarding their shelf life. A clear and obvious use by date should be included on all food products. We are aware that this will result in some arbitrary dates being set for products such as bottled water, but we consider that this is a lesser evil than not having safe consumption dates on the packet of oysters or liver pate.

MessageWe are curious as to why the Equitista party opposes clear labeling of foodstuffs. Do they prefer to put our citizens at unnecessary risk?
