Bill: Smoking Revision Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Liberal Democratic Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: September 2365
Description[?]:
This bill would amend the existing law that currently allows citizens to smoke everywhere except inside private homes (with the consent of the owner). We propose to allow local governments decide upon the issue. The legalization or illegalization of smoking should be left up to local governments who know the local populous that they govern in more depth. It is up to the liberty of choice, whether one believes smoking is crude or whether some enjoy and partake in the action. Therefore, it must conclude to the point that the national government, at its federal status, should leave the decision to the authorities underneath itself in such perspectives. The wide personal beliefs of the people are more focused in depth in the locality of a measure. Different provinces shelter and hold separate beliefs. A local area may differ completely in its beliefs than one other. Therefore, to reach an ultimate resolve, the legality of smoking should be decided by the local governments. |

Message | We fail to see how this law is an improvement upon the current one. Jakania only has five provinces, and its citizens probably have similar views. |

Message | We are not suprised by the M.R.P.'s vote. They've never really been concerned about people's different views in United Jakania and when we were in Cildania. Parties should vote no on this bill because the M.R.P.'s astounding evidence of "Jakania only has five provinces, and its citizens probably have similar views". Since this is backed up by...wait, nothing! If the M.R.P. is going to fight something they should at least have evidence and a probable cause. But, my fellow parties, you must remember that the M.R.P. doesn't have much concern for other people's views. After all, according to the M.R.P., they don't understand the importance of giving people the right to chose what they believe in. Any party that can say "We fail to see how this law is an improvement upon the current one" about an issue that gives citizens the right to ban or protect smoking rights is a tyrannical fascist party that gives little concern about the rights of its citizens. But hey, we can't forget we're talking about the M.R.P. |

Message | We oppose this bill. We because we believe that if an issue can be devolved on the basis of personal choice, it should be devolved to the people. Ultimately, whether we or a local government make a decision, it'll still be a decision that the people can not make for themselves. In this regard, we believe this will be of minimal effect. But primarily we believe this violates the tenet that people may act as they wish so long as it does not harm others; smoking does harm others. Our citizens may do it if they so wish, but have an obligation to ensure they do it privately, and only in the company of those who don't mind being exposed to second hand smoke. No one should have to suffer a detriment to their health to enter a public area or their workspace. |

Message | This won't necessarily make it legal to smoke in restraunts or public places of other interests. This will let the people decide whether they want it to be legal or illegal in their local community. Real Example time! In Ohio, they just recently passed laws that illegalizes smoking in public spaces. So, that means when the people went to vote on the ballot, they decided they don't want smoking to be legal in any public area or place of interest. When they elected the officials for local governments they also decided that their candidate was against smoking in public places, thus their representative took part in legislation on behalf of their beliefs. And, now ever since election day, Ohio has been smoke free. |
