Bill: Active Defense
Details

Status[?]: defeated

Voting deadline: December 2368
Description[?]:
You should really let the military do what it does best, protect from foreign invaders. There was this one time, when the Justice League had to fight super villains from the country of Khandak, but we couldn't be seen as invading that country. So Batman made us all these black liquid-metal suits and we snuck into the country covert-ops style, it was awesome. The point is, we took out the villains there so they wouldn't invade our own country. Same principle with letting the military help in emergencies. It's good sense to keep police and military seperate agencies, but when gigantic robots or lava monsters or some other threat that local police can't handle start tearing through our cities, it's just smart sense to send in the military. |

Message | Oh sure, everybody's afraid of the lava monsters. But when a threat is across an ocean and they can't see it, suddenly they're all insulted by the idea of active military defense! |

Message | We're a neutral country sunshine. There's implications to that. That doesn't include the paranoid agression of covert intelligence operations. |

Message | Hey I'm all for non-initiation of aggression. All I'm sayin' is binding our own hands even in case of emergency is dumb policy. Sticking your head in the mud and saying "I'm Neutral" makes the good guys nice and comfortable, but the world ain't only made of good guys is it? And when bad guys come rumblin' through killing lots of people on our home turf when we could have stopped them before they arrived, you'll wish to heaven you didn't have these laws. |

Message | It still means we can't go and assassinate another nation's leader, nor can we have a group of trained assassins just in case. |

Message | What if that leader is about to assassinate ours? What if that leader is about to drop a bomb on our neutral nation? I guess I could get the Green Lantern to think up a giant trampoline, but the guy's still gotta sleep once in a while. The choice you need to make is, which people are most important for you to protect? Your own people, or foreign aggressors? |
Date | 00:07:08, March 01, 2007 CET | From | Divine Party of the Republic | To | Debating the Active Defense |
Message | We arrest the assassins if we know about it, then decide on an appropriate diplomatic, economic, or military action. We shoot down the planes, military craft from other nations aren't allowed in Cildania. No, the choice is which is more important, safety from an ill-concieved threat or the esteem and friendship of other nations. |
Date | 06:18:40, March 03, 2007 CET | From | Justice League of Cildania | To | Debating the Active Defense |
Message | Arresting the assassins on foreign soil would be considered more than surveillance no? We're talking about unreasonable, irrational hostile nations that wish to harm us here, why are you so worried about their level of esteem? How in the world could you place that over the lives of your own people? |
