Description[?]:
Whereas, Everyone should recognize that not everyone accused of a crime is guilty, and Whereas, It is a crime in itself if someone-- of middle class must bankrupt himself to defend himself against a crime he did not commit, We hereby propose that all defendants be offered legal representation paid for by the state. This will be very basic legal representation, public defender level, and in many cases well off defendants will choose to hire more expensive counsel. However, we believe that the option to defend oneself without great expenditure of money should be available to all, and propose that its cost shall be deducted from the defendant's assets if the defendant is not poor and is proven guilty, but that it shall remain free if the defendant is acquitted. |
