A key problem with the transition from prison to normal life is that prisoners often leave without the skills or resources to reintegrate into society. Allowing prisoners to work, if they choose to, as they serve their sentence allows them to save money that will help them establish themselves when the leave prison, as well as giving them a marketable job skill. |

Old value:: Prisoners are interned and do not work in prisons.
Current: Able-bodied prisoners have to work during the day.
Proposed: Prisoners can do certain jobs in prison, voluntarily, for a small wage.
