Details

Submitted by[?]: Liberal Democratic Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: March 2372

Description[?]:

The Minister of Finance Adlai Stevenson proposes to decrease the Corporation Tax from the current established level of 40% to 15%.

For the general improvement of our tax system, it is proposed to lower the corporation tax twenty five percent to the lower level of 15%. We leave this open to debate, but will remain persistent in keeping the proposed tax amount in the relative area it has been set within.

MessageThis is a smart move by the L.D.P. Lowering the corporation tax will attract greater business to Jakania, which, in turn, will bring more better-paying jobs to Jakania. This leaves business owners of large or small corporations satisfied since they will have the ability to invest money from the tax cuts back into their company. Workers also benefit from this proposal as existing companies will likely create more jobs.

Hmmm. This reminds of a suggestion we made approximately one month ago in Jakania. The LDP and other parties ridiculed us for suggesting a lower corporation tax................

MessageWe thank the M.R.P. for their kind words.

It is important that the Supreme Council understands what this movement is about. This is not for party gain, nor is it for party establishment. This bill is none of these things. It is a movement in a new and better direction. Too long has this nation been shrouded in financial difficulty. We pushed forward in our first two years of office to move this country out of a massive deficit, which was a success. However, we lost power and the nation stalled in its financial duties. We must now all come together to help straighten our country back into the right direction. This, is the first of ways to do so.

MessageWe ridiculed at the start of modernized Jakania, when we were in a 84 plus JAK defecit, a higher corporation tax was needed to help get the country started. It is not so much needed now that the country is stabalized

MessageOne month ago in Jakania was February, 2370. We do not recall the M.R.P. introducing any legislation then.

And, if the M.R.P. speaks of what was in the beginning movements of Jakania, the L.D.P. stated it was important to use strategic economic methods to encompass gains in derivative fields of any generalized financial entities. We have had plans for these movements and have put them in use. We also stated that cut backs could and most likely would be made as soon as the nation was put first in its financial level of status. And, we are keeping to our word.

(OOC: The M.R.P. must remember that it was usually fetching the coffee and doughnuts while the U.D.J., J.L.S, and us were all discussing our plans during the meetings. After all, the J.L.S. had done coffee and doughnut duty the week before and it was the M.R.P.'s turn to take over the job - it was just bad timing for your party to be buying us our doughnuts when we talked about the corporation taxes. Anyway, your party wasn't the best at getting orders right: you brought us doughnuts without sprinkles when we deliberately said we wanted sprinkles. Also, the J.L.S. wanted their coffee with two creams and one sugar and you guys just could never get that one right....)

MessageWe're sorry, but we mixed up our dates. Approximately 12 years ago, we suggested lowering the corporation tax to 25 percent. However, the L.D.P. proclaimed that our recommendation was too capitalist for them. Their comments were posted in a debate section that has since been deleted. We did end up voting for the measure though since Jakania was in a severe financial crisis at the time.

Anyway, we applaud the L.D.P. for providing tax cutbacks to the Jakanian people during a time of economic stability.

(OOC: It's not our fault that somebody (the L.D.P.) provided us with the wrong doughnut order! You requested GLAZED doughnuts. There was not a word in the order about sprinkled doughnuts. Also, the doughnut shop ran out of those little cream cups. Since Jakania was still emerging from its state of backwardness, it was the only doughnut shop in the entire city! We didn't feel the need to make a special trip to another city just so the J.L.S. could get their stupid cream. Anyway, we heard enough of the corporation tax meeting to know what was happening. We also heard the L.D.P.'s unjust and unneccessary criticisms of capitalism, the economic system that is present in every developed nation today.)

MessageWe didn't say it was too capitalist (though we did have discussions on the economic theories of socialism and capitalism), we said it wasn't fitting for the current situation and time. We believed the corporation tax was too low to bring the nation out of the massive deficit it was in that the M.R.P. proposed. Looking back, it would seem we were right.

However, now is the time to reduce this corporation tax so we may have a freer and more competitive market and economic situation compared to when this current tax was instituted which we needed to protect Jakania's market and economy.

(OOC: Ok, let's get this straight. We did not want glazed, that was the U.D.J! We wanted Devil's Food but no, you said it was too expensive! We then asked for sprinkles then to only find out you mixed up my order with the U.D.J.'s. AND, there were thousands of those little cream cups all over the streets when one of those bombs went off in the only other doughnut competition, Steve's Nuts-O-Dough. So, the J.L.S. had the right to deliberately spill their coffee on your shirt when you got their order wrong for the...hmmm...15TH TIME!!!
And, it sort of helps that the fact when we were bashing capitalism (what do you expect from a party that believes in Gregorian Socialism?! It's the closest you'll get to merging Capitalism with Socialism) we were bashing it with the U.D.J. and the J.L.S. and we were having a lot of fun too until you came in the meeting room with the wrong order and started crying like a todler and ran off into the bathroom... It was necessary to bash it and capitalism is not the economic system present in every developed nation today! Look at these nations that all have socialist economic laws and governmental laws:
United Majatran Republic of Socialist Al'Badara
Republic of Aldegar
Republica Baltusia
Etc....We could go on, but that is not the purpose of this debate. Another debate must be open to continue this discussion.)
