Details
Submitted by[?]: Likaton Coalition of the Willing
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: October 2373
Description[?]:
We feel that in some areas, we do not support our citiznes enough. No one should gain additional or alternative rights regarding marriage, based on race or nationality. This is just discrimination. In order to protect children we propose that all would be parents should pass a qualifying test. The test should be administered for minimal cost, but parents circumventing should be fined as well as monitored. We propose the establishment of a 'Child Support Agency' to manage this. Finally, in order to investigate serious crimes, the police sould have the power to invoke Habeas Data (or Datum) once a court order is obtained. This only applies to documentary data, and cannot be used to force an individual to verbally incriminate themself. |

Message | This looks good, thus far. |

Message | Our caucus is highly divided on this issue,. Article 1 is something we firmly support. Article 2 is controversial within out caucus. Many members support Article 2, but many others claim that it would infuriate our working-class constituency. Article 3 we oppose, seeing no reason to say to anyone "You were married, but not *here*, so we refuse to recognize it." Therefore, we have yet to form an opinion on which way to vote on this proposal. |

Message | in terms of recognition, this simply prevents marriages that wouldn't be sanctioned internally being obtained overseas and thus having legal status here |

Message | While we recognize that fact, we worry of the day when some authoritarian group of parties may outlaw same-sex marriage or something of that sort, and in that case we prefer that there be an alternative route for such people to get married. That said, we have decided to support this bill, as we strongly believe in Article 1, and we also believe in Article 2 and will support the bill despite possible negative electoral repurcussions. |
