Message | Military is one of the best way (not the only however) to create character in as little amount of time, and you also gain tremendous leadership and teamwork abilities as well as learn the importance of civic responsabilities. It won't make you into a perfect gentleman, that is for sure, but it has great benefits. Plus your proposition is essentially a draft in times of war. That would mean that the US would have a draft right now and would have had it since 2001. And so would Britain for that matter. |

Message | What kind of benefits for example? And by the way, we don't think that the government should have any interest in these great benefits of a military service. A military force should be effective, and that's a question of weapons and combat strength of the soldiers, and not of military service. We don't have a problem with forcing people to do something, contrariwise we are in favour of slavery, but if you want people to do some work for the state there are other, more suggestive things you could need them for, like building monuments, palaces, temples etc. |

Message | Ha! Create character? Gain tremendous leadership and teamwork abilities? Learn the importance of civil responsibilities? I had to do mandatory military service for eight months and I can tell you don't learn any of those "advantages". If a young man doesn't have leadership and teamwork abilities and whatever else he won't learn it in the military, believe me. We are totally against any form of mandatory military or civil service. That is our of time... |

Message | I don't think that after the completion of school that adults must serve in the military. It is a waste of years where they could be earning proper money and making a living. I agree that we should scrap this but to still have it in times of war. A speech made by Mr Phillip Barnwood |

When all is orderly, he does not forget that disorder may come. Thus his person is not endangered, and his States and all their clans are preserved." - Confucius |
