Voting deadline: January 2086
Description[?]:
Currently the Rutanian government allows privatised space travel by issuing private permits for space exploration. In the interests of further controlling and regulating private exploration of space, and ensuring that only those private expeditions that the government wishes to have launched, are launched, the Grand Republican Party proposes:
The government shall operate a space agency that contracts with and oversees private space-exploration companies. The Agency shall be integrated into a suitable government ministry once created to relieve the tax payers of too much burden, and to increase coordination and efficency. |

From | Grand Republican Party | To | Debating the Government Space Agency to Oversee Private Exploration | Message | I ask the representative of the Liberal Imperialist Party - Can the people of Rutania afford NOT to have such a regulatory agency? Yes, the cost would be quite high, but surely a regulatory agency is needed to ensure that no unwanted or dangerous expeditions are mounted by companies in Rutania. The creation of an agency will ensure the safety of Rutania from an unwanted or dangerous companies and their expeditions. |

From | Liberal Imperialist Party | To | Debating the Government Space Agency to Oversee Private Exploration | Message | You make good points - and the Liberal Imperialist Party recognises the destruction which could be caused by a space-borne craft crashing onto a populated area - but we are sure there are better ways. Perhaps instead of a seperate agency this could be made part of an existing agency, such as Transport Ministry (or whatever). That way its budget would be more restricted. |

From | Grand Republican Party | To | Debating the Government Space Agency to Oversee Private Exploration | Message | Yes, it is, but there is not enough regulation. Space exploration has many dangers and possibilities, many of which can put the planet itself into danger. Surely by creating this agency to regulate private space exploration, we will be helping to aid the planet itself and safeguard it from space-bourne dangers. |

From | Humanist Socialist Party | To | Debating the Government Space Agency to Oversee Private Exploration | Message | Or alternatively you could see removing the ability of policemen to shoot Rutanian citizens dead as being more of a priority than pouring money into a problem which doesn't need solving, but anyway...
We don't oppose space research particularly, but we'd far prefer government money to be going to terrestrial research. We're unconvinced of the need for a government-run space agency. We still think the permit system provides sufficient regulation, seeing as the permits can be withdrawn. |

From | Liberal Imperialist Party | To | Debating the Government Space Agency to Oversee Private Exploration | Message | This is a better bill than the other bill. The other bill makes private space exploration illegal, and as has been shown by NASA space programs generally receive the brunt of cuts, and only allow a select few members of the nation's armed forces to go into space, whereas private space tourism companies dont have those problems. This is the best solution, as it allows both major and expensive state projects when the state is feeling generous, but it doesnt restrict the free market when that is not so. |
