Bill: Sturm und Drang - Blackshirts (i)
Details
Submitted by[?]: Commonwealth Workers Army
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: April 2378
Description[?]:
We suggest that, in these difficult times, a more progressive form of policing is needed. In order to establish this futuristic vision, it is necessary to make a few changes to our existing police forces. This first step, then - is to remove the 'domestic' police force, completely. Our suggestion is that PART of the Likatonian Armed Forces be assigned, instead, to domestic security - since they are much better trained and equipped... better able to deal with dangers such as terrorism and organised crime. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The nation's policy on the separation of the police and the military.
Old value:: A civilian police force is in place, backed up by the military.
Current: A civilian police force is in place and the military may be called in to help in serious emergencies.
Proposed: The military acts as a de-facto police force, with powers of arrest.

Message | There is no evidence of a need for this. We feel that, although we live in troubled times, the terrorist threat has been greatly exaggerated. |

Message | On the contrary - our next door neighbour in Keymon has been consistently rocked by terrorism in the last few decades, and we have had both historical and recent conflicts tracable to the (allegedly defunct) Tears of Termani group. Not to mention, the border conflicts with Lodamun. |

Message | Keymon is many miles away, and our fine military cope admirably with the minor infractions on the border. The Tears of Termani seem to be peaceful enough, and it is slanderous to suggest that they are guilty of any wrongdoing. |

Message | Oh, that's a shame. It is always disappointing to see patriots handing national security away. |

Message | We hate the idea of suicide bombers, we prefer the term "a triggered reaction of expansive gasses that resulted in civilians being impaled with ball bearingings". |
