Message | As there is no evidence that genetically modified crops are harmful - it is simply the same crossbreeding process farmers have used for years, multiplied over time. GMF's are good for the health of the public - for instance, some of them can develop natural resistances to pests - eliminating some of the need for the use of chemicals in farming. As for the issue of crop diversity - that is another matter. Genetically modified crops, because they are broadly speaking superior may crowd out older varieties. If a disease were to target them specifically we would lose most of our crops. At the present the government has a large role in farming and can maintain crop diversity. Even without the government, there is a market for organic foods that will sustain less favoured varieties of crops. |

Message | Ok, I'll vote for this if producers have to label their food if it has GMFs in it or not. And there has to be non-GM alternatives. That way, people can choose. |
