Bill: Unemployment Compensation Reform Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Party of Moderates
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: August 2385
Description[?]:
The current amount of money given by the welfare system to the unemployed is outrageous. The volume of the welfare for unemployment allows people who don't care too great for the state of Aldegar or for independence the option of not working and relying purely on that system. In order to encourage prosperity and employment, reforms are necesary. |

Message | We are of course open to compromise and discussion. |

Message | Here we will openly disagree. This proposal is a direct attempt of diminishing the social stability of our nation. We appeal the PM to tell us what they consider as the "welfare system" since we believe that they are not aware what a welfare system is. |

Message | Very well, we'll change it somewhat. We didn't expect our ideal hopes for the welfare system to pass anyway. |

Message | There, we have provisions made for people, and we put it at a level where the people are only able to get goods they need. So, if they have ambitions for living a more luxurious life, they must get a job. |

Message | Congratulations, you have just put several thousand people below the poverty line. We cannot support. We will not support. We demand this changed or dropped. And again - what does the honourable PM see as a welfare system? |

Message | First of all, we see the welfare system as described in this policy as being a system for the unemployed. Meaning, we don't believe this system encompassing the system for children or the elderly since those systems are described in other policies. We believe that the system should be for those hard-working people that have suddenly found themselves due to layoffs or being fired. We believe that it should be temporary for them, only lasting as long as they're unemployed, but if they don't get employed within a year or so, they probably are abusers of the system, and they should be cut off. We see the system as a safety net with great potential for abuse by criminals, and thus, great strides must be made to avoid that abuse. We do believe in safety nets, and we do realize that there are difficult times for everyone, however, we do realize that there are some people that will attempt to live completely off the taxpayer's dime, and those people will put undue pressure upon the taxpayers and take much away from society rather than give to it. So, certain provisions must be made to stop people from doing that. Yes, this bill will put some people below the poverty line. However, if they are people who plan to quickly get another job, then it should effect them very little. The true people that will be effected will be the layabouts, the people who would take away from society. They will finally realize that if they want to live well, they must contribute to society like everyone else. |

Message | There is extensive disagreement within the IR over the issue of the government's "safety net," and as such, we will not make an official statement regarding this matter at this time. |

Message | We are appalled to see such a clearly wrong view of the welfare system. The modern welfare as we see it is much much more than just a means to help unemployed. A modern welfare system is a horisontal policy that is encompassing all areas of the legislation - from assistance for immigrants to minority aid, to hiring policies for women, education programmes for unemployed, rights of marginal groups and of course unemployment benefits. We put focus on all areas, not just unemployed. Because of that, stating to reduce welfare is detrimental to all aspects of the society. We will not accept any kind of argument against this. We will vote against all policies that will decrease social security. And by social security we do not mean just unemployment benefits. Pensions, tuitions,... |

Message | Well, since this policy choice seems to deal only with unemployed people receiving compensation, we believe that all the other factors the Social Democrats have mentioned are covered in other policies, especially since such policies are mentioned specifically elsewhere, especially such things as pensions, tuitions, etc. Look at the menu for all the various policies and you will see what we mean. The policy specifically referred to in this welfare system deals with unemployment because there are other policies clearly showing what the welfare system does accordingly with immigration aid, social security, tuitions, etc. This is just one small bit of the welfare system, and it should be treated as such. We apologize for the very broad and misleading name which shall be changed. |

Message | We will not support pushing more people into poverty. How about proposing some laws to help these people instead of helping the rich? |

Message | This helps everybody! This protects against inflation. It protects our industries. It protects the government against fraud and criminals. It makes people work for their money, or are the Marxists against hard workers? Why don't you propose some laws that help people instead of rewarding the lazy? |
