Message | Just so nobody misinterprets this -- we are not proposing to increase taxes. Our plan is just to shift taxation off of work & onto consumption. We are not sure how much revenue will be raised by a sales tax, so an income tax cut is not included in this proposal. When this bill is passed, income taxes will be cut to offset the sales tax. We want to change the tax system so that it will be less burdensome on the economy & less harmful to growth. Also, if one wants to look at the issue from a purely political point of view, a sales tax is much more visible than an income tax -- if a future Government seeks to raise taxes to pay for higher levels of public spending, the increase will be very obvious to the electorate. Hopefully this will ensure that the tax burden continues to fall. |

Message | A sales tax on essential goods - you gotta be kidding me. This will hurt the lowest earning families much mroe than the rich |

Message | We realize that a sales tax is inherently regressive; however, this is why our income tax proposal exempts the first 15,000 DRA. That will more than offset this sales tax, and the two proposals together will make the tax system much fairer and economically efficient than it is now. Look at the two parts to the tax reform package, and you will see that this bill is a good one. |

Message | I'm sorry, Ms Bell has ordered our party to take some time off so we can catch up on our auditing and advance up The Bridge. They will not be voting on this bill. It is a waste of their time. |

Message | Although we are not keen on a sales tax on essewntial goods, if the income tax bill passes it will be better overall. |
