Bill: Gated Communities Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Green Nationalists
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: July 2087
Description[?]:
A bill to reduce our national debt - not another money-saver, but a new source of incomes Gated communities are residential areas with restricted access: gates, fences, camera's etc. They give (upperclass) people a feeling of safety. Now the private sector controls gated communities. However, this causes problems. They have implications for the local authority in terms of their long-term planning strategies and urban management in general. For example, municipal services such as refuse removal, maintenance, emergency services and traffic control can be affected. Official search warrants have no meaning anymore. What's even more: in lots of cases they wall public, state-owned space. Therefore we state that from now on, only the State can set up gated communities. The stated problems will cease to exist, we will have more control of such communities, the dangerous proliferation will come to an end, AND we will earn some extra money with it. |

Message | I disagree. I don't think the state has much of a role in local housing markets, it is best to allow local governments to set policy and local developers to respond to that. |

Message | Quote: " I don't think the state has much of a role in local housing markets" How about housing estates? They are allowed too. Nowadays, only the very rich elite is able to afford a gated community, we have to democratize this. |

Message | The gated communities and the private sector have no authority in determining the validity of a legally issued search warrant and must always give way to our federal laws. We don't see anything wrong with giving the freedom to build residential neighborhoods with security measures so long as they do not infringe on rights and freedoms. |
Date | 19:51:24, July 28, 2005 CET | From | Gaduridos National Party | To | Debating the Gated Communities Act |
Message | The government cannot be ruled or pushed around by the private sector. Also, why should only the rich be able to feel safe at home behind these gated communities. |
Date | 19:56:43, July 28, 2005 CET | From | National Libertarian Party | To | Debating the Gated Communities Act |
Message | If someone owns the property they have the right to build a wall around it. Also, most of the people who live in gated communities are lower middle class to lower upper class. |
Date | 01:29:29, July 29, 2005 CET | From | People's Progressive Party | To | Debating the Gated Communities Act |
Message | Since when is it a fact that only rich people in Gaduridos can afford to live in communities with gates for security? This is an unfounded assumption, plus not every residential area is built to target the same market or income. |
