Bill: IP Maconian Integration Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Imperialist Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: June 2387
Description[?]:
In order to sign onto the Macon common market treaty - which will increase substantially our volumes of trade, as well as our ties with the other states of the union, we must make a few reforms. I urge all parties, regardless of partisan stripe to pass this bill and ratify the treaty - otherwise we risk throwing coals on the fire of Hutorian secession and indeed, the breakup of this bold experiment in continental unity. This act will require that we allow foreign investment - hardly a problem. Foreign investment means that other countries are building their factories here. It will require more lax border policies - while I have some reservations about this, I believe they are on balance, for the best. What I will seek in the future, is a common Maconian border policy, so that we can have controls. Finally it means we must relinquish tariffs and quotas. I say its about damn time! With tariffs we are saying to other countries, please, don't sell us your goods. we would rather pay more. This is injurious most of all to the consumer, especially poor consumers, who are hit hard by high prices. Imagine a village - is the village more efficient when all people in it produce their own goods, or when they specialize? It is surely the latter, which is why we need international specialization of labour - which will ensure peace, prosperity and continued unity on this continent. |

Message | An excellent bill which we have no problem with supporting - I was just logging on to propose a similar one myself!! |
Date | 21:07:28, April 09, 2007 CET | From | Páirtí Sóisialach | To | Debating the IP Maconian Integration Act |
Message | Why is article I necessary, it makes things so much more restrictive, counter-intuitive to the aims of the other two articles. |

Message | Article one is acceptable. Article two is completly unacceptable, as it will essentaily put our economy, and our people, up for sale to the highest bidder. We will become an economic colony of a rentier state. Our nations indpendance lies in our ability to keep out foreign invaders, weither they come armed with guns or money. |

Message | Article 1 is necessary for us to sign the trade treaty. Do not fear, however, I plan on raising the issue of a common border policy for the union, so that we can raise or lower border scrutiny collectively - if necessary. |

Message | So the Marxists have decided to become nationalists, eh. The workers are best served when they have jobs - better to work for a Hutorian than not at all. When foreigners invest in Telamon they are building "stuff". If they ever became our bitter enemies and went to war with us, we could just nationalize the factories (and lets hope foreign investors didn't hear that). |

Message | Our party of all parties has been the biggest supporter of the Union of Macon. However, the Macon Common Market Treaty was not a joint venture and it was not debated in Congress. It was created unilaterally by a Hutorian party. We support a revised Common Market Treaty, but this is no such example. We find Article III particularly troublesome, since it refers to all trade (it's the default provision in the absence of an actual treaty) and would open us up to all sorts of unfair trade with nations outside the continent. |

Message | I urge all left-wing parties to vote against this, and support opening discussion in Congress instead on an alternate treaty. |
