Bill: IP Justice Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Imperialist Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: July 2389

Description[?]:

1. Malpractice suits cannot be adequately judged by our legal system, because of the lack of specialized medical knowledge. Rather, we should let this be handled by the relevant regulatory boards.

2. While there is room for punitive damages to dissuade certain activities, it is ridiculous to have no caps on monetary damage. Juries, while reliable on average, may sometimes award excessively high damages without realizing the social costs of doing so: less innovation and higher prices for consumers. Justice must be done, not just for victims, but also for the good of the nation.

3. Given that police are expected to apprehend criminals, doesn't it make sense to arm them properly?

MessageThis is the worth of both sides on this issue. Article 1 unnecessarily limits the ability of judges to award just reparations. And Article 2 unnecessarily clouds the process, making it harder for patients to get a fair deal.

Random fact: Real-life organisations should not be referenced in Particracy, unless they are simple and generic (eg. "National Organisation for Women" is allowed).
