Bill: Take Greed Out of the Power Grid
Details
Submitted by[?]: Progressive Marxist Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: October 2087
Description[?]:
I propose that we nationalise all power plants and power delivery sytems. This wil make it easier to handle the nation's infrastructure. It also allows us to indulge in poor aid, bringing power to the disconnected parts of the city in what would be seen as an unprofitable waste by a corporation. No low-level workers will lose their jobs over this transfer of power. |

Message | I'll stick with privatization.......poised to make money, and as UCA said, it creates competition to create better ways of distributing the power. We would be Economically and Technologically advanced, by just privatizing. |

Message | That is not entirely true. Many of Britain's nationalized industries failed miserably after privatized. Oftentimes, competition doesn't exist in this industry because there may only be one provider in the area. Besides, why look for a cheaper, cleaner energy source when you can raise rates in respond to demand for fuel? In the government system, any profit can be pushed towards funding research. |

Message | Power production is not an industry that's particularly suited to privatization. The massive costs of laying power lines and building plants make it very likely that we'll end up with a monopoly on our hands. And if we get one, our party would rather have the company be run by the government, which would have the interests of the people first, than a private company that would only worry about profits--and probably be just as inefficient. |

Message | Privatization has only worked well in Ohio, where the coal pits are minutes away from the power plants. |

Random fact: Any RP law granting extraordinary "emergency powers" or dictator-like powers to a government must be passed by at least a 2/3rds majority, but (like all RP laws) may always be overturned by a simple majority vote of the legislature. |
