Bill: Covert Operations Counter-Terrorist Action in Somasi

Details

Submitted by[?]: Aldegar Freedom Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 2399

Description[?]:

Family First assumes that all other parties know the current situation regarding Somasi extremists.
We all know what needs to be done - we must encorporate our most elite covert operations units to gather intelligence. We must then proceed to destroy the terrorist cell at a later stage with secret services.
It is high time that we act against this group of extremists and eliminate them before they cause any more damage to this nation's people or threaten this nation's welfare.
We will send in our covert operations unit as soon as this bill is passed to gather information and intelligence.

MessageWe can support covert operations, but open military presence would simply ignite the hatred of the Somasis at this point. We can't commit to that action without rational discussion and intelligent debate.

MessageThis is blatant racial profiling. The Somasi people are being oppressed simply because a lone bomber blew up a bus. This is a sad day for Aldegar.

MessageRacial profiling?
The TCP never meant to imply that our proposed military action would opress the fine people of Somasi. But unfortunately they have terrorists in their midst that must be eliminated at ALL COSTS. Yes, this is a sad day for Aldegar, but would the SNP rather we keep our military out of there and just wish the problem away? With that kind of non-action, you might as well be handing a terrorist a bomb to attack us with.
We're not advocating an attack on any race, we're advocating an attack on TERRORISTS. If it was a lone bomber, we'll hunt him down. If he had comrades, we'll hunt them down. If he was performing the attack under the authority of a larger terrorist cell, we'll hunt them all down and destroy them.
The TCP will NOT tolerate terrorism, and we will NOT allow this to become any greater of a threat than it already is to our people!

MessageWe agree that the situation must be defused, but we don't think military action is the best way to do it. Blatant and unnecesary show of force would only aggravate the situation and the people of Somasi which would increase the extremist element. Covert operations and peaceful incentives are the way to go. At this point, we won't support open military forces. We wish to reaffirm this.

Change the bill to just massive covert operations, and we shall support.

MessageWe have made alot of changes to the proposal - for the time being, we're only suggesting that we send Aldegar's elite covert operations units into Somasi to gather intelligence on the terrorist cell, and when we know everything of their locations, their prime targets, etc, we can send in secret services to destroy the terrorist cells and not cause too much public interferrance.
We hope parties can support this new proposal.

MessageThe SNP will oppose all legislation coming forth from this body in an effort to bring this government to a standstill if this act of spying on the Somasi people is approved by this Council. We are vehemently opposed to covert forces conducting raids in the night with these "secret services". It is these secret police forces that the great evil powers of history are infamous for, and we shall have none of that here in Aldegar. It is my hope that like-minded political parties of Aldegar will join me in not pursuing this slippery-slope policy, and will instead stand for freedom and liberty in our country alongside the SNP.

MessageWe agree. The Somasi's Movement is a cancer for our state. We think that SNP has to stay with the National Governement and not with the extremists. Will be a great error to go against the Great Council, and we are ready to propose a bill to outlaw the SNP.

MessageNo, criminal proceedings should be opened and a full and fair investigation into the recent terrorist attack should take place, but engaging in any sort of operations, military or covert, is a recipe to drive people to even further extreme ends.

MessageThis is outrageous!
How could any self-respecting party vote down the investigation by covert operations units into the terrorist cell that is a constant threat to the well-being of our nation's liberty and its people?
Do the parties against this bill WANT our citizens to be put at risk on a daily basis, and even to be put to death? Do they want to just sit back and twiddle their thumbs whilst the Somasi terrorist group plots its next bombing? This is simply OUTRAGEOUS!
Family First is APPALLED that any party would imply a likeness of a simple intelligence gathering operation to the KGB or the Gestapo, which is what we gather from the SNP's comments. Wanting to protect your nations people at any cost is not 'evil' for the love of God! Have the parties of Aldegar completely lost their minds, or do they have connections to the terrorist cell? These are the only two possible explanations for ANY party to reject this bill.
How absolutely disgraceful. Family First is appalled.

MessageWith all due respect, this bill sets no limits on the extent of this "intelligence gathering" or any guarantees that our civil liberties won't be violated. This is an open ended bill to conduct spying on Aldegarian citizens simply because certain elements have starting electing members of the Grand Council that run contrary to the established political beliefs of the major parties. The SNP has never advocated terrorism, any insinuation to that end is completely unfounded. We would have preferred a more public strengthening of defense, better security procedures for bus companies, concerted efforts to disrupt terrorist financing, and other less drastic measures than these covert "secret services" which are free to spy on Aldegarian citizens in a time of peace.

Do you realize how slow such practices are? Unfortunately, when you're dealing with organized, extreme elements, strong action from organizations that can bend the rules are necesary. As to your concerns, that is why we are against open military action. Covert is called covert for a reason.

I try to be tolerant of the language barrier, but seriously what the hell does this mean. In our previous post we were referring to this comment by SCAFR "we are ready to propose a bill to outlaw the SNP." If SCAFR seriously considers banning political parties a legitimate function of the Grand Council then we're merely reminding them that they are the party who are most often in the minority and thus planting the idea of banning political parties in the collective mind of the Grand Council might not be the best course of action for their own personal well-being.
