Message | Ronald Clarke, Finance Minister: "The old tax system, put in place by the Le Chaim Party, is still in place, and is, quite frankly a disaster. Until we reformed the spending plans, we were in drastic deficit, borrowing much in order to maintain the drastically high public spending that had been authorised by our predecessors in this office. We reformed the public spending budget, but the House refused to pass our taxation plan, meaning that the reverse happened and that there was a large surplus. Other parties then took it upon themselves to impose taxation upon both luxury and essential goods. They also insisted upon making a dramatic increase to Corporation Tax. The surplus is therefore far too much. Not only is this bad economics, but it is immoral. However, here we have not made cuts to the revenue raised through income tax. We trust that, once this has passed, whoever takes over from us in this office will look at reforming the spending plan, and the other taxes that have been imposed. Clearly, there is now no longer any need for the high levels of spending on Defence and other areas. What we have done here, is simplified the tax system. Le Chaim instrumented a very complex tax regime, and it is essential to simplify the tax system with no more than two tax bands. Here, we are helping to lift more people out of poverty by exempting the very poorest in our society from paying tax. It is essential, for the good of this nation, to pass this income tax proposal. We need to get out of this tax-and-spend aura that has long haunted Hutori." |

Message | It doesn't mean that it is right. Tax systems should be as simple as possible. You are voting against it because it is simple? |

Message | We really cannot understand why people are voting this down. 1. It brings in practically the same amount of revenue - in fact it brings in a little bit more. 2. It is a much simpler tax system and more able then to work. 3. It allows even more poorer people to be exempt from paying tax. What is wrong with that? |
