Bill: IP Deregulation Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Imperialist Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: February 2399

Description[?]:

I am proposing a set of reforms to reduce the burdensome role of government over the lives of individuals.

Firstly, I don't see why the government should intervene in the hiring practices of private industries. We may not like WHY they hire (or don't hire) certain people, but government interference will reduce investment. Furthermore, in a racist community, for instance, hiring a minority will cost the business money - we should combat racism, instead of using brute force techniques that hurt industry.

Secondly, GMF labeling laws are a tax on private industry, de facto, and grant legitimacy to the scientifically unfoundded fears some people have of genetically modified crops. I, for one, dream of the day when strawberries are the size of watermelons.

Thirdly, health and safety laws should be downloaded to local governments. Such laws discourage investment, while also accomplishing valid and defensible objectives (ie. preventing workplace injury). Because of differences in the strength of regional economies, there may be tradeoffs - Antepec may be willing to risk more injury because of a desperate need to encourage industries to move in. Ferene may be able to take the financial hit and better protect its workers.
