MessageHear hear. Strikers like to think they own their job, that they have a 'right' to that job and no one else is allowed to take their place. They forget that it's a voluntary contract between them and the employer, or that the job would ever even exist without that employer in the first place. We need to keep the freedom to choose true for everyone.

MessageThough we are for strong free markets, we believe that is essential that the government ensures people can get a job without being fired from it for as petty a reason as it may be. There is a fine line between corporate powers in a free society and the rights of an employee in a free society. For us, the Republican Party, we value ensuring employees have the right to stay in a job unless there is a reason to remove them. Employers having the chance to fire workers freely, so vaguely and plainly, is a dangerous move in Cildania's market.

MessageIn a free society, there's no such thing as "corporate powers." Power is the use of force, that's something only the government has.

Employers don't like to fire for petty reasons either, most invest tremendous time and money in new employees. To fire such an employee on a whim as you imply is a foolish choice, and while they should have the right to do so, no business that does this will survive long in a competitive market.

A job is just a trade, where both people need what the other has. Just like I would trade money to a supermarket for food, I would trade my effort/expertise to a man who needs it in return for a wage. Nobody has power over anyone else since anyone can leave the trade if it doesn't seem fair.

But if I think I have a 'right' to the supermarket's food but the price is too high, I decide to take the food home and eat it, and refuse to pay for it until they lower the price. That is essentially what a strike is. It's not fair to the supermarket, and it's not fair to employers to not be allowed to fill their needs.

If an employee is worried about being fired on a whim, s/he can simply create a contract with the employer upon hiring, which occurs all the time. If the employee says the employer is not giving what was promised at hiring, s/he can charge the employer with fraud in court.

Think about it, if the government won't let employers fire strikers, employers will be VERY wary about hiring any union workers or anyone with strike history, and likely won't hire at all due to the risk. How many potential jobs are you killing off if you decide to vote against this bill?

MessageYeah, those are really bad examples.

MessageIn economic terms the example is just fine. You yourself know it has a point, yet instead of considering that what you think may not be what is true in reality, you close off outside evidence and stick to your idealistic delusions.

Don't worry, I'm an idealist too, I keep casting pearls before swine despite the mounting evidence.
