Bill: Smoking Bill
Details
Submitted by[?]: Party Royale
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: December 2401
Description[?]:
While we recognize the right of a person to put whatever he chooses in his or her body, this right does not allow that person to force those substances into another person's body. Secondhand smoke is dangerous, and those who do not conciously choose to smoke should not be subjected to health hazards for simply dining out or going to the movies. |
Proposals
Article 1

Old value:: Smoking is legal everywhere, at the discretion of the property owner, but is illegal in government-owned buildings.
Current: Smoking is legal outdoors and in private homes and clubs, but illegal indoors in places of employment, with the exception of places that primarily serve liquor.
Proposed: Smoking is legal outdoors and in private homes and clubs, but illegal indoors in all places of employment.

Message | A business should have a right to determine smoking rules on its premises. Again, if people don't like it they can frequent other establishments or gain employment elsewhere. It's called freedom of choice. No one is forcing you to work or shop at a smoking or non-smoking business. Government's job is not to be the tobacco police. |
Date | 16:29:46, May 08, 2007 CET | From | People's Socialist Front of Aloria | To | Debating the Smoking Bill |
Message | Agreed. Employment-smoking is a crime. |
Date | 00:35:19, May 09, 2007 CET | From | Party Royale | To | Debating the Smoking Bill |
Message | It is easy to say that people should find employment elsewhere, but the sad truth is if you're desperate for a job, you're going to work in a place where they smoke even if you don't want to and even if you know it's bad for your health. People should not be forced to choose between being able to feed their families and not getting cancer. |
Date | 22:42:47, May 09, 2007 CET | From | Moderate Libertarian Party (NoCoalition) | To | Debating the Smoking Bill |
Message | Life is all about choices! Just because the choices aren't great doesn't mean you have to take away life's pleasures and risks for everyone else. This nanny-state nonsense will be the downfall of the D.R.A. |
