MessageGiven the ineffectiveness and lack of a concrete proposal of the current Bill the Labour Party would like to the creation of a full state broadcasting system of television andradio to provide high quality and independant competition to private stations. This will ensure a high quality of output and variety throughout both sectors as well as providing a platform for all parties to have fair and regulated access to the media.

MessageIt seems unnecessary for the government to do such a thing, and it might have potential for abuse. I can't support it, but I have only minor grounds for opposition.

MessageThere is potential for abuse in all systems, in an all private one a politician can gain complete control of media channels and turn them into propaganda machines should they wish. State controlled media adds a balance to that.

MessageI want to abstain, but I don't want the abstain penalty. And... What you mention about a politician gaining complete control, that's what I fear would happen with state subsidized channels.

Random fact: "Treaty-locking", or ratifiying treaties that completely or nearly completely forbid any proposals to change laws, is not allowed. Amongst other possible sanctions, Moderation reserves the discretion to delete treaties and/or subject parties to a seat reset if this is necessary in order to reverse a treaty-lock situation.
