Bill: PWP Temporary Finance Improvement Initiative
Details
Submitted by[?]: Imperialist Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: October 2401
Description[?]:
We should seek a balanced, or near-balanced budget, as a matter of good policy. As Hutori has doubled defence spending - surely with offensive intent - we need to increase our defence spending in tandem. That requires tax increases. Excise taxes, such as the ones I am proposing are the best way to go on that score. They don't require a lot of bureaucratic overhead, and further, they stimulate saving (more than income taxes). While I recognize that they are a bit regressive - LUXURY taxes are not, and we have an extensive social welfare system for just that purpose. |
