Why do we allow our senior citizens to suffer? They are without pensions, forced to work into their twilight years, and in need of help that private charity is unable -- or unwilling -- to provide. It is the duty of this government to step in, and provide relief. |

Message | No. People are living longer and 70 is more realistic. Pension system? Whose going to pay for it and why are you taking responsibility for retirement out of the hands of individuals? |

Message | If you haven't noticed, our budget has a surplus of nearly 12 million Aloriks! We can afford these reforms and the current budget is wasting tax payer money. We might as well put it to good use. Also, this legislation does not take retirement out of the hands of the individual. Private pensions are left up to them, but we must maintain a standard to ensure our people do not plunge into poverty after retirement. And just because people's lifespans are becoming longer, does not change their physical state at the age of 70. They are still in a fragile state, and we should not be forcing people to slave in factories until they die. |

Message | Sorry, wrong figure. Make that 12 billion Aloriks. |
Date | 22:44:28, May 20, 2007 CET | From | Party Royale | To | Debating the Retirement Reform Act |
Message | Public pensions are necessary to provide a safety net for our senior citizens. There are very few options available for those too old to work and without any support, and it is irresonsible of the Alorian government to merely kick them out on the street to die. |

Message | Since we have a surplus, perhaps it's time to give some back? Some individual tax-cuts would be in order. Enact pension and other social programs, means deficits. Under conservative rule, of course we have a budget surplus. If we let the liberals take the lead, they'll dance us into the red time and time again. |

Message | 70 is perfectly reasonable. Most people can work very well at 70, if not they are disabled. Anyone who can't work is disabled. People should take care of themselves until they can't anymore. There will be perfectly healthy seniors who can still work cash registers and desk-jobs playing golf all their days and living off tax payer money! Retirement should never happen unless you do it with your own money. If you're disabled that is totally different, but we may be talking about healthy AND unhealthy seniors. Clearly only the unhealthy should get ANY benefits, we should enact a program to this effect. |

Random fact: It is possible for a player to transfer ownership of a character or a royal house to another player. This should be done in a public way, such as on the Character Transfers thread, so that if a dispute arises in the future, Moderation can be pointed towards evidence of the transfer. |
