Bill: Income tax proposal of January 2407
Details
Submitted by[?]: Purple Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill proposes to change income taxes. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.
Voting deadline: September 2407
Description[?]:
The Republic of Endralon will soon be likely to be launching a National Health Service, financial support for low income university students, pharmaceutical drug price regulation and a nationalised train service. These services will need extra funding through increased taxes if we're to avoid spiralling into debt from the current healthy surplus. |

Message | We oppose massive tax increases that will cripple our economy. The Renewal Party and its allies spent decades establishing our low tax regime. |

Message | I don't believe taxing between 10-45% of people's income is going to cripple the Endralon economy. The middle-class and working-class employees will have no more than 18% of their income taxed which means the average citizen will still have 80% of their income to spend - that's going to result in plenty of consumption and continued economic growth. The only people taxed between 40-45% of their wealth are the upper-middle-class and the very wealthy (company executives, soccer players, film stars, psychiatrists, plastic surgeons etc.) The richest person in Endralon earns only just over 35,000 END a year so anyone who earns over 20,000 END a year is obviously on an upper-middle-class income or higher and is still going to have loads of money left to spend after the income tax. |

Message | although i find myself essentially in agreement with the proposal for an income tax, i totally disagree with the brackets which do not permit money held by the richer proportion of the population to be invested into new ventuers thus sustaining economic growth. taxing the higher proportion of the popultation at 45% will only mean that there will be less capital for investments. i propose two scenarios: (a) either capping the highest bracket at 35% or else (b) introducing a flat tax rate of 15% - 25% I am more in favour of the second option however am also willing to reach compromise on the first one |

Message | We already have a flat tax that only applies to the top 33% wealthiest citizens. No taxes are paid by the rest of the population making less than 15k END a year. You institute income taxation for those in the 10-15k range while decreasing taxes for those in the 15-20k range. This borders on a crime against the lower middle class. You seem to be unaware that we tax 40% on the sale of luxury goods. Under your plan we'd tax 40-45% of the incomes of wealthy citizens and 40% of their purchases. This is a recipe for having wealth flee the country. Fortunately, the majority sees the error this policy. |
