Bill: Power to the People
Details
Submitted by[?]: Progressive Marxist Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: June 2091
Description[?]:
No longer should the less populous provinces have the same amount of power in the Federal Government as the more heavily regions. They are more affluent and more numerous yet they are ill represented in the Parliament. In order to gain 25% of the Migadon seats, one would have to have to have 1,594,640 supporters approx. In order to gain 25% of the Ferene seats, one would need approximately 2,709,566 voters. Which one will a politician focus on? This encourages our politicians to focus on the Seats more than than the People. |

Article 1

Proposed: A proportional algorithm that gives a very small advantage to larger regions.

Message | Ferene 10,838,262 Sevescia 10,600,113 Lirona 9,604,060 Antepec 6,660,247 Migadon 6,378,559 As you can see, the populations are very close...there is no huge gap, like you would see in Southern US, or Central Canada. Since the populations are very even, we see no point to this, and although the increase may be slight...we see that there is no point, and that they might as well all have an equal say, for this case. |

Message | There is a large difference, Migadon has only 60% of the population of Ferene. 3 and 1 are close to the same, but should 3 people have the same say as one because of where they are standing? |

Message | Yes, they should have the same say. It is not fair to them, that with a few million difference, they should get less seats. Had they been 1 million, i would agree whole-heartedly. But not something as stupid as 60% of the top 3. When they get to 30%, bring it up again, otherwise this bill does not have any of my support, and is a slap to the face of those provinces. |

Message | But why are 10,823,262 people equal to 6,378,559? It is not right to them. Techincally, following this, each person from Ferene is less a person than one from Migadon. Besides, your usual Social Darwinism shouls support this. Perhaps if those regions had attracted enough immigrants they wouldn't be politically weakened. |

Message | Why are you so intent, on lessening them? How do you know, that the only reason immigrants didn't go there, is because they give less benefits to immigrants...such as welfare. You never know..... |

Message | No, I was mocking your normal outlook. They are behind in population because they couldn't compete with the larger regions for immigrants and job-seekers. And i'm not intent on lessening them, I am intent on making every person count as one person. Currently 1 Migadonian is more politically valuable than 1 Ferene. |

Random fact: "OOC", "IC" and "IG" are commonly-used acronyms in Particracy. "OOC" refers to comments, discussions and actions which are out-of-character, meaning they are done player-to-player rather than party-to-party. "IC" refers to in-character interactions (ie. party-to-party). Similarly, "IG" means in-game, although this term may also simply refer to what happens in the actual game interface, as opposed to on the forum or elsewhere. "RP" just means "role-play". |
