Message | Believe it or not, this is similar to the draft issue facing us. The question really is: How do we create a national identity without limiting freedom? I'm not sure this is the way, speaking from experience, being forced to sing or say a pledge during school does nothing but ensure that a good portion of the population will either take it for granted and ignore it completely or actively rebel against it. This leads to, of course, enforcing that these actions actively take place and a heavy-handed government always leads to rebellion. It is the opinion of Free Lodamun that we need to establish a nation that grants the freedom to ignore everything that makes it great. That the concept, the ideal that the flag stands for is the force that binds this nation together. Not some law cooked up by beurocrats, but an over-arching ideal that every person in the 5 Kingdoms shares: that the yearning for happiness and true freedom is what binds us together, not the government. |

Message | perhaps if the national anthem one was changed to the last option "they are not required to sing but are required to be respectful." That's important for any child to learn regardless of the subject matter. |

Message | We agree entirely with the Free Lodamun party. Forced patriotism is not true patriotism. |

Message | We agree entirely. Every individual with the privelage of living in this great nation should pay hommage through symbollic geastures, such as the national anthem. Asking of children that they sing a short anthem to show respect for their nation is hardly too much to ask. This is hardly a 'forced' proceedure - if singing the anthem is 'forced' upon individuals, then so is the school curriculum, and so are things as basic and obvious as road rules and regulations. And besides, children may not have the knowledge or maturity to pay respect and be thankful for the great commodities this nation has bestowed upon them, and if they are raised without this sense of pride and respect, they will grow to be adults with no sense of belonging to their nation, no sense of identification with other citizens of this nation, and no sense of pride. At least singing the national anthem, a short embodiment of our values and our way of life, a simple tokin of appreciation for the nation we are all privelaged enough to belong to, will instill some form of pride and respect in children who otherwise may not have formed these virtues. A short, 2 to three minute anthem is hardly oppressive. It's pride, respect, and gratitude. As for the burning of this nation's flag, the very physical embodiment of this nation's values, everything this nation stands for, and everything that the soldiers in our militairy have fought to protect over the decades, it is hardly too much to expect that lunatic 'activists' refrain from defacing it in such a blatantly disrespectful manor. Political expression is one thing - every individual has the right to coin his own political stance, and to debate this stance in a calm and leisurely manor, but burning the flag is not political expression - it's blatant disregard, it's a direct insult, it's a spit in the face of every single fallen hero who fought to protect this nation's values, this nation's people, everything this nation has come to represent. The burning of our national flag is treason - this is a fact, and such abhorrent behaviour should be punished accordingly. Any individual who has such contempt for this nation that they feel it appropriate to burn the flag that represents it and embodies it does not deserve to be here, and we question why they would want to be here if they hate this nation so much in the first place. We ardently support this legislation. |
