Status[?]: passed

Voting deadline: January 2416
Description[?]:
Family First believes that a few alterations must be made to our current immigration policies. First of all, article 1 adresses the issue of financial aid to refugees - Family First supports freedom of movement, and anyone with a wish to enter and live in Aldegar has every right to. However, Family First cannot consider them as being any different or worthy of any more attention in terms of financial aid than any national Aldegarian. We do not agree with any financial aid to refugees, firstly because they must work to earn their way, like every national Aldegarian, and allowing them financial aid will be no incentive for them to find a job. Secondly, it is too much of a burden on tax-payers that they should be funding financial aid to refugees who essentially came to Aldegar due to reasons outside of any tax-payers control. It is not their fault that these refugees have fled their own nation, and they should not be punished as such. Thirdly, the government of Aldegar is not responsible for the fact that these refugees have fled their own nation - we are obliged to let them into the nation, but under no circumstance are we obliged to pay for them out of good will. In summary, article 1 defines that any refugee is allowed to enter this nation, regardless of his reason, but he will be treated exactly the same, with no special consideration, as every national Aldegarian, and be expected to earn his own living and pay his own way. Article 2 is a matter of national security - we would like to propose that border security be improved to make certain that anyone enetering our nation is of no threat to our nation's people in any way. Police departments, the militairy, and our intelligence agencies are all dedicated to protecting the right of Aldegarians to be free from harm - why, then, would it make sense to have no border security and background checks? This is essentially serving the same general cause as the police force, etc: we believe every Aldegarian has a right to be protected from harm at all costs, and we believe that this right of Aldegarians is much more important than the right of anyone to enter the nation without background checks. Family First is certain that the people of Aldegar would agree with this. We are by no means restricting anyone from entering the nation - we are proposing that security measures be adopted to ensure the safety of our people, and to ensure that terrorists and extreme criminal personalities be rejected from entry into this nation. Aldegarian's safety must come first. |

Message | We see the reason behind article 1, but we are cautious to approve of article 2 because of considerations to the tourist industry. Since the only terrorist attacks upon Aldegar have been by Aldegarians themselves, it seems that more strict border controls upon tourists and visitors would serve little purpose at this point and time, and it may discourage visitors and tourists from spending their money within Aldegar. At this time, the party is split between on how to vote on this. |

Message | We sympathise with the concerns of the PM regarding Article 2, but Family First had taken this thought into consideration before creating the bill, and we therefore decided to propose legislation that constituted rigorous security checks, but certainly nothing to the extent that tourism would be discouraged. We certainly do not want to discourage tourism; we value its economic benefit, aswell as its benefit to our nation's reputation worldwide, and of course, its ability to share our great nation with people all over the world. By no means should this new security measure cause detriment to our tourist industry, we can assure the PM of that; it will be rigorous, but it certainly won't be harrassing or distressing to the subject in any way. |
