Message | communism |

Message | Not really. It's just basic unemployment insurance for those that can't afford it otherwise. If it were communism, the minimum income would really be a minimum income, and it would be permanent. |

Message | Let's get this right: you want the government to pay people to stay at home? Using money it has taken from hard working taxpayers? |
Date | 05:25:27, June 20, 2007 CET | From | Teleurstelling Party | To | Debating the Welfare Act |
Message | The Secular Party would contend it is unemployment Insurance...however as we all know Unemployment insurance is not paid via tax but via premiums paid by employers. Also the common system of unemployment insurance requires that one work to earn time and levels of pay. It is not a blanket to catch all it is limited, Unemployment Insurance helps a displaced worker while he is seeking more work...it is not permanent. There is nothing in this bill to suggest it requires a work history, and it is vague about how long an individual might make use of this luxury. There is a reason it is called a "Welfare" Act and trying to mislead this body by suggesting this proposal is like a completely different and far more fair system is insulting. The Falls Party reluctantly votes 'No' because of lack of clearity in the wording of the Bill. |

Message | Our understanding of 'Unemployment insurance' is as part of 'Accident, Sickness and Unemployment (ASU)' cover, an insurance product usually sold with loans, mortgages, credit cards, etc. If His Majesty's subjects wish to take out such insurance that should be up to them, but under no circumstances should the funds of HM Treasury be handed out to people who do nothing for it - any surplus should instead be returned to the taxpayers. |

Message | I hope the political leaders who are opposing this measure will never have to learn what poverty is really like. Belinda Braithwaite (Leader of the LCWA) |

Message | I'm sure we won't. We are all landowners, after all. Regardless, the His Majesties Government is not a charity. We may encourage charities through tax-emption and perhaps free national advertising, but it is an affront to the dignity and purpose of our institution to suggest we are ourselves one. |
