Bill: Homosexuality Reform
Details
Submitted by[?]: Dorvish Popular Front
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: October 2417
Description[?]:
Homosexuality compromises morale and the fighting effectivness of our forces. Having closeted homosexuals is a compromise that exacerbates the situation, as trust between our troops is destroyed. We have therefore resolved that in the interests of national security homosexuals must not be considered for military service. |

Message | We see that "don't ask, don't tell" policy as fair for all parties concerned in the military, but see that the current policy is lesser evil from the two. We oppose this bill in it's anti-homosexuality form. |

Message | We see the compromise as being the worst of both worlds. Homosexuals are allowed in the military, but are not identified - this increases the negative effects on the morale of the unit and decreases trust within the military, a key component in the forces effectiveness. |

Message | The compromise would maintain "Es Spirit de Corps" and preserve rights of minorities. If this issue is so decisive for the trust in the military, then we are worried that military service policy has failed. |

Message | Our arguments are made up of reasons why it would kill team spirit in the army - yours are just made up of saying 'our policy would be better'. We are saying that forcing it underground is the worst policy available, as dishonesty destroys trust. Soldiers have to depend on each other entirely, and if the question mark that the person you have known for years, trained with and your life depends upon has an alternate life is more damaging that either banning it or allowing. So we consider the compromise as worse than either banning or allowing it. We believe allowing it is bad for morale in the army - soldiers may not wish to share showers and barracks with homosexuals. It also protects the homosexuals themselves from abuse and bullying. We have resolved to put the issue to vote as in our minds no compromise can be made. |
