Bill: Lodamese Child Protection Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Lodamun Distributionist Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 2418

Description[?]:

The LDP can not support legislation that is makes the argument "the only bad people are people who have already been bad."

We must, therefore, urge the Parliament of Free Peoples to stand with us in strengthing the current laws. We propose a period of testing before the state allows the children in its care to be taken by prospective parents.

MessageWe are not sure that this will prevent those with a history of child abuse. However we see that the current law may allow unfit parents to adopt.

MessageLet us be clear about this issue: we would not be giving up the requirement of background checks. That would be ridiculous. Of course those with a history of child abuse cannot adopt children in Lodamun. This proposal goes furthur than the current laws because we find this issue to be more important than the current laws suggest. "Strictly regulated" is the key here. Part of "several tests" and an "intensive program" would be in-depth background checks. Fear not, we are not throwing our most precious resource to the wolves.

MessageThis is why we should have debate, because some of you are not experienced enough in the world to understand issues in their entirety. This issue is a financial one. IF we pass this bill, then there will be a ton more kids who grow up in orphanages and feel unloved and unwanted. This will be because it costs a great deal of money to go through the rigorous testing that is required by some countries for adoption. Adoption is not something just for the wealthy upper class, it is something that every couple who wants to should have the opportnity to pursue. Especially those unfortunate couples who are poor and cannot afford the costs of rigorous testing, but would be the best parents on Terra.
