Bill: Immigrant Freedom Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: United Socialist Movement
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: April 2091
Description[?]:
This Bill , in our opinion, has many benefits. All too much in recent years have right wing tabloids victimised immigrants who wish to reside in a country. Immigrants can bring fresh workers, fresh ideas, and different cultures which are beneficial to us all. Quotas are racist - they only allow a certain amount of foreigners in and then shut the doors. Even worse is the proposterous idea that immigrants are not allowed to reside in this country. We feel that it is in everyone's interests to allow immigrants to settle here in Hobrazia.
Naturally, we anticipate the question that 'why should we allow people into our country who won't work and sponge off benefits?'. The answer to that is: why should we allow Hobrazians to do this either? You can't put this down to someone's country of origin or economic arguements. I would expect to be allowed into any country I choose as an internationalist, so it's only fair that others will as well.
Any criminal elements suspected of coming into Hobrazia would be stopped at border patrol, and then either charged under Hobrazian law or extradited. However, this would be regulated by the police force and a cross party consortium to ensure that immigrants with only minor offences and reformed characters are admitted. This minority should not discourage us from allowing good people into our country! |

From | Liberal-Progressive Union | To | Debating the Immigrant Freedom Act | Message | I agree that immigration is a good thing for Hobrazia and we should have more or less an open door policy. But not all immigrants are angels and it is important to screen out the criminal elements from the immigrants who come here in search of a better life. I am with you so far on this, but if immigrants can be screened for past criminal activity before alowing them in then that would help prevent fugitives and other criminal elements from entering. |

From | Social Democratic Liberal Party | To | Debating the Immigrant Freedom Act | Message | Personally I believe that whilst national pride is a good thing to an extent, we are all citizens of the world. I welcome this bill and will certainly vote for it. |

From | Neo-Stratocracy Party | To | Debating the Immigrant Freedom Act | Message | This is horrible forour country, we don't want immigrants from a diffrent nation coming here and taking all our jobs that Hobrazians need. If we just let in anyone then crime will take a rocket up to the moon. What we need to do is let only certain people in that meet requirments to get into the country. They must be able to speak our language, the must hold a job for atleast one year that pays minimum wage, and they must not commit any crime for three years or be deported. |

From | Liberal-Progressive Union | To | Debating the Immigrant Freedom Act | Message | The bill description can clarify some of your problems with this. There is a weening out process so criminals cannot enter the country. And your concern lies more with immigration laws rather than obtaining residency. Propose a bill to limit immigration if you want to. |

From | United Socialist Movement | To | Debating the Immigrant Freedom Act | Message | 'Taking our jobs that Hobrazians need' - This is the usual right wing patter which coincides with such an argument. Many jobs which immigrants take up in other countries are jobs which the citizens usually do not want anyway. Denying someone entry because nationals need jobs smacks of racism to me. |

From | Standing-At-The-Back-Dressed-Stupidly | To | Debating the Immigrant Freedom Act | Message | I agree to the vast extent - but agree with the united socialist movement in that denying foreigners jobs because citizens of the country require the jobs isn't right - perhaps if our own nationals are educated well then they'll get the jobs ahead of the immigrants ??!! |

Random fact: The people in your nation don't like inactive parties. When you often abstain from voting for a bill, they will dislike your party and your visibility to the electorate will decrease significantly. Low visibility will means you are likely to lose seats. So keep in mind: voting Yes or No is always better than Abstaining. |
