Bill: Senate Bill - Election for the Speaker 2418

Details

Submitted by[?]: Democratic Party of Dorvik

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: November 2418

Description[?]:

It's time to vote for the Speaker of the Senate now that all administrative issues have been sorted out. The canditates come from the Socialist Party of Dorvik (government) and National Conservative Conference (opposition). "Yes" means voting for SPD candidate, voting "No" means voting for NCC candidate. Next Speaker will be elected after next parliamentary elections if seen necessary.

OOC: Speaker of the Senate is meant purely for roleplaying UNLESS we decide that he/she will be first in the line of succession if & when president gets impeached, killed etc, it would add more interest on matters of the Senate though we would have to abolish office of vice president: I don't think this would be a big deal while the abolishment would strenghten the Senate.

Input from other parties is not just appreciated but it's also necessary.

MessageMay I also remind that it's the Senators who vote for Speaker candidates so seats in the House of Commons doesn't count here (as is the case in all votings of the Senate).

MessageWe shall put forward Mr. Michael Gerrard as the president of the Senate. He has proven over the years as a Senator that he was able to propose good ideas and good things in committees. He was one of the only to express what he really thought about the bills proposed in the Senate.

MessageOOC: What about the idea of abolishing vice presidency and giving his status for President of the Senate? (that's actually better name as the House already has a speaker, president is the form used in the US senate and it gives more dignity for the position).

Random fact: "Treaty-locking", or ratifiying treaties that completely or nearly completely forbid any proposals to change laws, is not allowed. Amongst other possible sanctions, Moderation reserves the discretion to delete treaties and/or subject parties to a seat reset if this is necessary in order to reverse a treaty-lock situation.
