MessageWe can't support this at all. What if Lodamun soldiers become POWs in a hostile, torturous nation? Then it will be legal for them to be brutally tortured.

MessageThis is OUR law, not international law. If some rogue nation takes our people captive, they will hurt them regardless of what our policy is. Look at both the vietnam and korean wars. Regardless of American policy, our people were tortured and killed. We can't say what other nations will do, but it is important that we adopt a policy that doesn't bind our hands to placate international sentiment, which could change.

MessageThe vast majority of Terran nations treat prisoners of war according to international standards. Who exactly do we plan on going to war with? If we were in a conflict with a rogue state, I'd be happy to change the law, however there is no proof that any of our soldiers are being tortured namely because none are captive.

MessageI'm against this proposal. Besides, international POW treatment standards should be good enough.

MessageWe are all for this change, we should be able to govern ourselves. Also what if 'internationally accepted' standards prevent us getting vital information. What if the standards are that prisoners are released as soon as they are taken prisoner?

We feel that we should govern our own rules and not let outside politics influence our policy.

MessageWe think "internationally-accepted standards" are sufficient, and extremely unlikely to include the immediate release of all prisoners. We wouldn't want other nations to have to abide by only their laws, which might include torture. We should set the precedent.
