MessageWe can certainly sympathize with the aims of this bill - we do believe that radio stations should provide educational material, rather than junk or smutt. But if radio stations are to provide such educational material, it must be of their own will, and, perhaps more importantly, their own funding. Whilst radio education may benefit some of the tax-payers who fund these subsidies, it most certainly will not benefit every tax-payer. Possibly only even a minority, in fact. As such, this sort of radio subsidy should not be tax-payer funded. If society feels a strong enough requirement that their radio stations broadcast educational material, the individuals wanting this educational material can fund it themselves. Surely if enough of the populace wanted educational material on radio, and if they so fervently desired it, then such an educational radio subsidy would be well within their merits to fund by themselves, through charitable donation. But we cannot support making people pay taxes to go towards radio stations if they do not even own a radio.
