MessageA country with a monarch is not, by definition, a Republic. Does the Secular party, Mr Speaker, propose to betray His Serene Majesty, who rules over us by the Grace of God?

If so this is treason. Punishable, we believe, by death.

MessageMr. Speaker,

We favour maintaining Luthori's tradition of a constitutional monarchy, and in keeping with that principle, prefer "Empire" to "Republic".

I yield the floor.

MessageMr. Speaker,

We strongly object, as we are quite proud of the title of the empire. Furthermore the Republic is not holy, but rather the people that make up the empire.

MessageMr Speaker,

It pleases us greatly to see the The Most Excellent Viceress unfurling her loyalist colours. We applaud all our Rt Hon and Hon Friends for condemning this bill and back their calls for the proposers execution for treason.

I yield the floor.

MessageMr Speaker,

If one of our Presbyteries were given some kind of limited independence then I would fully support a title such as Holy Luthori Kingdom of Utagia, for instance. But to revert our proud Empire to being a mere Kingdom, and to attempt to relegate HSM The Holy Luthori Emperor as such, is unacceptable to us.

Might we suggest that if the name is to be changed at all, it should be 'Holy Artanian Empire of Luthori Kingdoms' or something similar.

I yield the floor.

MessageMr Speaker,

If there was widespread popular support for a move away from the name Empire, which I don't there is, might I suggest one option would be 'Christian Commonwealth of Holy Luthori Kingdoms'? This way HSM The Holy Luthori Emperor need not change his title.

I yield the floor, I also do not yield our multinational empire of numerous kingdoms.

MessageMr Speaker,

We fail to understand the necessity of a name change. Equally, the Empire is not a commonwealth, which is by definition a loose association of governments, but in fact an Empire in the classical and modern sense of the word. We oppose any change of name wholeheartedly.

ooc: Why'd you want to change it, Secular Party?

MessageOOC: An empire sounds too violent. We should appear as civilized to the international community, not imperialistic.

MessageOOC: I don't believe the Japan calls itself an empire. They just have a traditional emperor, which is a different matter.

Messageooc: The difference being, Japan has never called itself an Empire. It has been called 'the land of the sun's origin' and 'the country of the eight islands' in Japanese. The only reason the Japanese Emperor is called an Emperor today is because of the Chinese influence, he was originally a religious leader. We are based on the Holy Roman Empire, however and there's no IC reason to change the name. We lose the RP connection if we become a commonwealth, and also being a Holy Empire is unique on Terra.

The word Empire doesn't connote violence. The German Empire was united through economic means, the Holy Roman Empire was a collection of kingdoms, baronies and duchies that elected their Emperor as a representative of God on Earth to rival the influence of the Pope, the British Empire was formed through colonisation and economic means, and although it was involved in wars it was no more than any other country at the time.

Messageooc: Actually, you're right. Japan was the 'Great Empire of Japan' or the 'Empire of the Sun' after the Meiji Restoration until the Second World war. It wasn't a violent power until the Second World War, and out of around 2,500 years of history had been officially called an Empire for fifty.

I think Empire is more poetic a name than Commonwealth, also.

MessageMr Speaker,

I wonder if anyone would favour a name such as the Holy Oalapan Empire of Luthori Nations? This would, of course, mean relocating the Imperial Capital back to its traditional home in Utagia, and a change of His Serene Majesty's, and his Viceroy's titles (OOC: the Emperor's title is in the national motto).

I yield the floor.
