Bill: Retirement Age Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Capitalist Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: November 2093

Description[?]:

A bill to move the official retirement age from 65 to 70. We would prefer no retirement age but in light of the lack of that option we will impose an advisory retirement age with people able to retire earlier or later than 70 years old.

MessageWe must reject this bill, as it is a government's duty to protect its members, particularly it's weakest ones. Most people will only retire at 65 if they have to anyway, as they will be earning far more if they working than they get from their pension. So only those that feel they cannot continue to work shall retire as that age, and denying them that would be cruel. It's not like pensioners don't serve useful postions in society anyway, so less would also be damaging to the healthy growth of the nation. They have much experience to pass onto the younger generations, and are often the backbone of campaigns that help better the nation.

We must say NO this proposal.

MessageIts only an advisory retirement age anyway. People can retire earlier or later, its up to them.

MessageThe Liberty Party supports this proposal. However, the impact will be minimal as this country does not have a state pension scheme.

Private pensions tend to be more flexible than state pensions in any event, and so early retirement will continue to be an option for those who a) want to retire early and b) have made sufficient pension contributions.

It is also important to remember that many countries are suffering a serious pension crisis because of aging populations. A gradual increase in retirement age is the most rational response to this.

The Liberty Party recommends a YES vote to this proposal.
