Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: December 2429

Description[?]:

A minimum wage should be introduced for our countrys workers. Now I know most people would think having a minimum wage would hurt companys. But the minimum wage Im putting forward isnt so high but it shows we are doing something and its a start to help Baltusias poverty.

Yeah because its not low enough already. It used to be 30% and we did fine. You realise that if we shift the burden off industry, it goes onto the citizenry? (OOC: At least it would if the budget worked properly)

Yeah, but since we're setting minimum wage we'll still be improving the general welfare. We'll be lessening the amount the feds get and increasing the amount low-level workers get. If 10% isn't enough, maybe we need to cut spending.

....and 30%? That's crazy.

MessageThe median corporate tax rate amongst OECD nations is 30%. The US runs at 35%. Japan is the only OECD nation with a higher corporate tax (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corporate_tax).

So, no, its not crazy. Do some research.

"We'll be lessening the amount the feds get "
Why is this a good thing?

So? Japan didn't have corporate tax when it shifted from an isolationist agrarian backwater to one of the world's great powers at the beginning of the 20th century. Its a bit simplistic to say that a nation's economic progress, as impressive as it may be, is entirely dependent on its corporate tax rate. What about China? No (real) corporations, strict socialist control and a 9% growth rate. Or mildly socialist India? They're still going strong.

MessageThat and you'll notice that with the exception of Ireland and Iceland (and various nations that have some different corporate tax brackets), the nations that have flat corporate tax rates on the level you're discussing are generally have less than first world living standards. Take 9% Montenegro for instance. Or 18% Uzbekistan. What about 15% Mauritius?
