Bill: Dorvik Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Social Libertarian Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: April 2038
Description[?]:
The current situation in Dorvik has been condemned or will soon be condemned by the legislatures of multiple countries. These other countries, however, act too soon and too rashly. The government of Dorvik is currently in its first electoral cycle, and the people have not yet expressed via the vote whether or not they approve of the government. Therefore, this resolution stands to call the Parliament to swiftly and immediately: 1) chastise any and all nations that prematurely determine that the majority government of Dorvik is acting against the will of its people and support the "Freedom Fighters" of Dorvik; 2) send a diplomatic envoy to encourage fair and free elections in Dorvik; 3) deploy electoral observers to ensure that the December 2037 election in Dorvik is conducted in a satisfactorily fair and free manner; 4) commission, in the event that this bill cannot be passed in time or Dorvik rejects our observers, a small committee to determine the fairness of the Dorvikian elections; and 5) declare the Beluzian Republic's belief in the necessity of maintaining state sovereignty in international affairs except when it must be breached in circumstances that include the gross manipulation and opacity of elections. |

Message | Please discuss the language and the timbre of this bill before I am forced to put it to a vote. I'm sure that even if we have differing opinons we could compromise on what needs to be done in Dorvik. |

Message | We cannot afford to wait any longer to bring this to a vote, and therefore we shall. Please support this resolution to prove that our government is run by individuals that believe in allowing democracy to run its course before taking rash action. |

Message | We agree with everything written, though we express our mild opposition to the last clause. Even when there is manipulation of elections, intervention should be multilateral and democratic. We will vote yes, however, in an effort to no longer delay this much needed action. |

Message | Indeed; we probably should have made the point about interference clearer in the fifth clause. When this bill passes and it comes time to make public the government's commitment to state sovereignty, it can be reworded so that we don't seem so eager to interfere. |
