Message | The Liberty Party believes that an abortion occurring before a foetus is a person is not murder. The Liberty Party believes that personhood does not begin at the moment of conception, when the zygote is merely a piece of living tissue with human dna, like a skin scraping or a hair follicle. The possible ability of a zygote to become a person at some time in the future does not make it a person, in the same way that the cell removed from a sheep's mammary was not a living sheep at the moment it was injected into a dna-less sheep ovum. Of course, at some point that cell became a sheep (called Dolly). The position of The Liberty Party is that personhood begins sometime between conception and birth. That point is certainly before the point at which higher brain functions clearly begin (at about 26 weeks) but not before 3 months when the foetus may start to take on the physical appearance of a human person, but has no meaningful brain activity. OOC: As Bonnie Steinbock, a medical ethicist, said in an interview with Newsweek when asked when life begins, "If we’re talking about life in the biological sense, eggs are alive, sperm are alive. Cancer tumors are alive. For me, what matters is this: When does it have the moral status of a human being? When does it have some kind of awareness of its surroundings? When it can feel pain, for example, because that’s one of the most brute kinds of awareness there could be. And that happens, interestingly enough, just around the time of viability. It certainly doesn't happen with an embryo." The Liberty Party strongly urges a NO vote to this bill. |

Message | We echo the sentiments of the Liberty Party and inform the RCP that we would also oppose attempts to allow abortions into the second trimester. We only support abortion in the first trimester. |

Random fact: The influence a bill has on elections decreases over time, until it eventually is no longer relevant. This can explain shifts in your party's position to the electorate and your visibility. |
Random quote: Although I understand and respect the intentions behind the gesture, this is not something that is universally understood or appreciated, and it tends to give out a negative impression of our party. ~ Anton Weinreich, General Secretary of the Dorvish Communist Party, pleading with his members to stop burning the national flag |
