Bill: Religious taxation act
Details
Submitted by[?]: PPP -=- Peoples Protective Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: March 2440
Description[?]:
Taxation of religious institutions. Currently: o No religions are taxed. Proposed o Religions are treated as companies, and all profit is taxed, however, charitable donations are not taxed. For too long religious groups have beggared our nations coffers and citizens pockets in times of need. It is firm time our nation received our share of the profits reaped by those behind closed doors. As an act of generosity and firm acknowledgement of the importance and presence of religion to our people and in their lives, charitable donations shall remain tax free. |

Message | Religious groups have beggered our nation? How so? They do not collect tax, they do not sell products, they receive charitable donations themselves. We do not tax citizens contributions to charities, we should not tax their contributions to religious groups, its not as if they are businesses. |

Message | To take an extreme example: Scientology; while they may not have beggared our coffers, they certainly have enjoyed a very lenient tax status while making profits that could make a Fortune 500 blush and as such deserve to be taxed as a company would. |

Message | I doubt they have many followers here. Perhaps we could make a difference between recognised religions, such as Islam or Christianity, and mere cults, such as this Dranish Scientology nonsense, thereby ensuring that genuine religious groups are not affected, but that cults are. |

Random fact: Players have a responsibility to differentiate between OOC (out-of-character) and IC (in-character) behaviour, and to make clear when they are communicating in OOC or IC terms. Since Particracy is a role-playing game, IC excesses are generally fine, but OOC attacks are not. However, players must not presume this convention permits them to harass a player with IC remarks that have a clear OOC context. |
