| Currently, Lodamun is mandating that local governments can only be run a certain way, that is, the popular election of a mayor. Free Lodamun feels that it is not the federal government's place to dictate how local governments should conduct thier business. If a community wants run by a council, so be it. If they want thier mayor appointed by committee, so be it, it is thier decision to make. |

| Message | I must concede the NP's point. However, allow me to address both of your concerns. FIrst of all, there are many forms of democracy, none proven to be superior over any other. Council appointments are just as valid of a form as direct election, though it certainly opens the door for favoritism. Why? Because the council, itself, is elected. Therefore, it is in the council's best interests to keep thier constituency happy. Mayoral candidates would still have to campaign so that the people that elect the council know who to tell the council to elect. Problems of favoritism will simply work themselves out. Another reason why we can trust democracy will continue is this: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." That quaint American saying should carry some weight in this situation. How long has our current law been around? At least a few hundred years. HUNDREDS. We find it extremely doubtful that local governments would even attempt to change things and even if they did that thier voters would pass that legislation. Why even bother with this you may ask? As the federal government, it is up to us to provide people with freedom, options and the ability to choose between them are freedom. |

| Message | Democracy is not written on stone tablets and handed down from on high. Liberty is organic, something that grows and evolves as the people participating do. I don't expect the urp to understand that (nice going straight to unfounded personal attacks). By limiting how local governments elect thier leaders we are effectively destroying thier right to evolve. |

| Message | Our current policy halts the development of democracy and the development of different forms of government. There are many forms of democracy, the Greeks started with direct voting, everyone together (this proved, understandibly unweildy), they then moved to the first representative democracy. Forms continued to develop over the years. By decreeing that there is only one form of democracy and one way people may be elected, we're restricting that growth process. We SERVE the people, not the other way around, we must allow them to choose thier own form of government, regardless of our opinion of it or personal power. |
