Bill: Military Service Reform Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Lodamun Autonomous Republican Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: November 2439
Description[?]:
The current system of compulsory service is laudable in its aim of defending our fine country, but misguided in its method. Rather than forcing citizens to serve, it should instead become a professional, high-tech force with heavy incentives to attract the best men and women. This heavy-handed law imposes upon the rights of our citizens and creates needless beauracratic waste in the army. |

Message | There are many benefits to having a mandatory service initiative, however. All forms of national service can serve as a melting pot of our country's vast regions and cultures. Fellow servicemembers will learn perspectives they otherwise might not have known. Additionally, these service initiatives are beneficial to national unity. Rather than separate all citizens by factional pride, this national service initiative blends all citizens of different religions, races, hometowns, and cultures to work toward a common goal: the greater good of Lodamun. A vote for this bill is a vote against this country, as far as the NCL sees it. |

Message | Your argument may have some merit, but citizens should(and, if given the chance, will) work towards these goals togther, outside of forced military service. Criminals often share cross-cultural bonds, but we do not encourage everyone to become a criminal for this reason. Forced military service is analogous; an iimmoral practice with good side effects. |

Message | While we disagree with the current law, we cannot support the new law. No adults upon completion of schooling should ever be required to serve in the military IN PEACETIME. It takes time away from the other things they could be doing to benefit society, and thus makes Lodamun's economy less productive. However, in a TIME OF WAR, we believe it should be every adult citizen's duty that is of proper age and health to take up arms and defend his/her country. It is a civic duty during wartime to serve in the military just as it is a civic duty to report for jury duty. |

Message | We believe the values learned in the army, the long-standing tradition of our fathers and forefathers, are right for the young men of Lodamun. To remove the institution in place would cast a blow to the nation. |
